Why Topps NOW Cards Have Different Numbered Hit Counts

See why one Topps NOW release may have 41 numbered hits while another has 91 or more, how the parallel ladder creates the total, and why the exact release matters.

41 vs. 91common current hit pools in soccer and MLB

Topps NOW does not use one universal numbered-parallel checklist. The known hit pool is the sum of the serial-numbered tiers offered for that exact release.

That is why many current soccer releases have 41 known numbered parallels while the common MLB structure has 91. Special autographs, relics, set formats, and threshold unlocks can increase the pool further.

The total is the sum of the listed tiers

The arithmetic is simple once the exact checklist is known. The hard part is verifying which tiers belong to the specific card rather than importing a familiar structure from another sport or season.

Soccer example25 + 10 + 5 + 1 = 41
MLB example50 + 25 + 10 + 5 + 1 = 91

What the current PrintRun archive shows

In the current 717-card PrintRun dataset, 420 releases use a 91-hit structure, 91 use 41 hits, 51 use 16 hits, and many others use expanded or special structures. MLB accounts for most of the 91-hit cards, while soccer contains most of the 41-hit cards.

These counts describe the current tracked archive, not a permanent rule. Topps can change a parallel ladder by program, season, region, card, or promotion.

Why some releases exceed the standard ladder

A release with 107 hits is not necessarily using a new base ladder. It may combine a familiar 91-card parallel ladder with 16 additional numbered autographs or another special chase.

  • Autograph tiers add separate numbered supply.
  • Relic tiers add another eligible chase pool.
  • Image variations or short prints may add known or unknown supply.
  • Chrome and Opal Chrome thresholds can unlock additional tiers at large print runs.
  • Team sets can contain parallel structures across several included cards.

The same print run can produce different odds

At a predicted print run of 2,000, an order of ten cards has 0.205 expected hits with a 41-hit pool and 0.455 expected hits with a 91-hit pool. The denominator is identical, but the available numbered supply is different.

That is why PrintRun stores the exact hit structure beside each card. A forecast without the correct numerator can produce a clean-looking but wrong order calculation.

10 cards, 41-hit pool, PR 2,0000.205 expected hits
10 cards, 91-hit pool, PR 2,0000.455 expected hits
10 cards, 16-hit pool, PR 2,0000.080 expected hits
Expected hits are long-run averages, not guarantees. Unknown chase types are excluded until their supply is verified.

What to check before increasing an order

The hit count is the numerator in the order calculation. Verify it with the same care as the predicted print-run denominator.

  • Verify the exact numbered tiers on the live product page.
  • Separate base parallels, autographs, relics, and unknown short prints.
  • Check whether a large-run threshold could add more tiers.
  • Use each current print-run prediction as a separate denominator scenario.
  • Do not compare cards using 91 hits by default when the release only offers 41.

Frequently asked questions.

Why do many soccer Topps NOW cards have 41 hits?

A common current soccer ladder uses /25, /10, /5, and 1/1 tiers. Those stated supplies add to 41.

Why do many MLB Topps NOW cards have 91 hits?

A common MLB ladder uses /50, /25, /10, /5, and 1/1 tiers. Those stated supplies add to 91.

Can a Topps NOW card have more than 91 numbered hits?

Yes. Autographs, relics, special parallels, set structures, and threshold-based Chrome additions can expand the eligible numbered pool.
